Doula and PES

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

Role of a Birth and Postpartum Doula:

  • Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life
  • Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
  • Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth
  • Stays with the woman throughout the labor
  • Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decisions
  • Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers
  • Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience
  • Allows the woman's partner to participate at his/her comfort level
  • Offers education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester
  • Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying
  • Offers evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and makes appropriate referrals when necessary

As a doula it is my goal to see a healthy mom and healthy baby bonding. I believe that our birth experience is a memory that we cherish. It is a sacred time in our life. As a mother I remember everything about the day that I got to meet my little ones. Having an emergency cesarean with my oldest son was the inspiration I needed to search out all things concerning birth. With that inspiration and the encouragement of a massage client I decided to train with DONA and become a doula.

Placenta Encapsulation

In China, placenta consumption is an age old tradition. In 1578 one of the leading and greatest pharmaceutical experts of China published the Materia Medica. He wrote that the placenta was a life-giving energy. Regenerative to the body's qi, blood, yin and yang. The placenta contains both pregnancy and birth hormones, proteins, minerals, and nutrients. It has been scientifically researched to show it contains a balanced blend of hormones, proteins, minerals, and nutrients that can help mother ward off baby blues and even postpartum depression. It can also help increase milk supply and lessen healing time postpartum.

Placenta Encapsulation can be done in your home or my office. My goal is to start your service as quickly as possible to ensure you have what you request in this transitional time after the birth of your little one.
